Our appointment is at 7:30AM and check-in is 5:30. So we set our alarm for 4AM and went to bed at 10pm the night before.
The morning was brisk and we hopped in my car for the 20 minute (11mi.) drive to the hospital. There were very few cars on the road for the drive from Youngsville to WakeMed.
We arrived at 5:19, I selected the parking deck this time, but it turned out the surgical lobby didn’t open until 5:30.
We had to walk around the building and up two flights of stairs to reach the main hospital entrance, and then waited in the main lobby.
Then at 5:30, we took the elevator down to the ground floor and took two lefts to reach the surgical services lobby. Registration was just opening up, so we had another wait, as they got ready to greet patients.
Out turn at check-in came at 5:41. After a panel of questions we returned to our seats in lobby to await our scheduled surgery at 7:30.
A medical worker called for my mother at 5:58, and I was told to wait in the lobby, as they didn’t have enough seats in the surgical ward.
