After eating our dinner at the Wayback Burgers restaurant, we visited the local taproom so mama could get a celebratory drink. I didn’t drink since I was driving.

What we Paid
Mama ordered a Habu – Rice Lager $7, 14 oz.
It came to $8.35 with a 3% surcharge, tax, and a 55 cent tip.
Habu Flavor Text
The Habu is a rice lager worthy of legend.
Tales of the battles between Habu and Mongoose while enjoying this timeless concoction are just where the lore begins.
Traditionally brewed using our mash mixer to gelatinize short grain sushi rice Over beer comes from rice and the rest is from pilsner malt.
It’s hopped with floral Lorien hops and lagered for several weeks until naturally clarified. It’s also very low gluten! 4.7% ABV
Our experience
Mama said that the drink was tasty and perfectly balanced. She likened the flavor to Korean Somaek, a mix of soju and beer.
At home we’ve made our own makgeolli, but you can’t beat the degree of quality you get from a proper brewery.
While mama enjoyed the bar and the drink, my own experience was not pleasant.
Throughout the facility there was unnecessarily loud music blaring. I couldn’t really hear what mama was saying when she spoke. The staff and patrons had to shout to be heard.
I don’t know if this was the norm for the facility or if this was just for the Fourth of July celebration, but I can only imagine the harm the staff might suffer from such working conditions.
Back at Job Corps, I learned about OSHA standards for hearing protection and the decibel levels that warrant caution.
I am glad I wasn’t in the brewery for very long. My health is very important to me. I don’t expect to visit this place again.
But that’s just my take on the brewery. The place was packed with customers, so I’m probably in the minority with my opinions. The business address is above, it may be worth checking out if you are in the area.
